MALABOMBA! - a Gypsy-spiced international dance party for the City of Angels. Screw borders, let’s dance!
AK & Her Kalashnikovs are locked, loaded and dangerous. The Kalashnikovs are the only band with their own chapter in Jane's Modern Weaponry. From lace-trimmed finesse to raw conflagration, they do it all with hammers and tongs. Sebastian Steinberg doesn't play bass as much as commune with it. Like they're planning on taking over the world together. Jose "Gurri" Gurria-Cardenas percussions like Everest mountains. If it's a little bit country and a little bit rock n roll and all swing with nuance by Pagannini, it's Fiddle Dan Graziani. You think accordion doesn't do punk? You haven't heard Isaac Schankler. Jake Bluenote isn't just searching for the lost chord, he is trying to reharmonize the world. At light speed. Kid's gotta shot.
And just who do these diverse melodic madmen mangle the charts in the service of? None other than AK herself, Alissa Kueker. There are those who can't make up their minds: Is she a greater beauty or a greater singer? You don't have to decide. You get it all. Just watch and listen. And dance. Her Gypsy caravan ranges from the Caucuses to the Carpathanians to the Pyrenees, grounded in the heritage of the Roma, but laced with Serbian Reggaeton, Italian pop and French versions of British Invasion rock n roll. Add Russian, Portuguese and whatever else strikes her fancy and you are on the sum of a spellbinding musical adventure. The Kalashnikovs will be joined by two equally splendid sirens of sway, Nicole Chimay and Afsaneh Mah, who will seduce your senses with their serpentine shimmies.
