Honey, Milk and Blood is a work for soprano soloist, (at least) 9 other singers, and electronics (keyboard synthesizer remapped with Max/MSP). Based on a text by Jillian Burcar, it is inspired by the ideas of Serbian-American inventor Nikola Tesla (1856-1943), who wrote: "The acquisition of new fields of endeavor by women, their gradual usurpation of leadership, will dull and finally dissipate feminine sensibilities, will choke the maternal instinct, so that marriage and motherhood may become abhorrent and human civilization draw closer and closer to the perfect civilization of the bee." The concept of the hive animates the performance of the singers, who alternate between operating as individuals and as a collective. Musically, much of the piece is based on overtones of 49Hz and 60Hz, 60Hz being the ground hum that we often hear emanating from electrical objects in our environment. As the prime mover behind the development of AC power in the United States, Tesla gave birth to this sound over a century ago, so in a sense, he is the composer of the longest drone piece ever written. 49Hz is basically a low G, and the resulting composite scale forms a link between our musical world and Tesla's.

Ghost Almanac is meant to function as a musical analog of how memory works, a sonic map of the mental landscape as separate from the will of the ego. It reflects both the way thoughts we wish to forget can be maddeningly persistent, and the way thoughts we wish to remember can be eerily insubstantial. These processes are texturally embodied by resonance, reverberation and decay, and motivically embodied by echo, repetition and fragmentation of material. The piece explores chaotic, dense textures (when the mind is overwhelmed) as well as more meditative textures permeated by silence (when the mind is lucid). Ghost Almanac is extended and revised from the somewhat shorter Ghost Trajectories (2007).
