The Shpil at MALABOMBA!
MALABOMBA!, LA’s only Gypsy-spiced international dance party, is proud to bring local klezmer heroes The Shpil to the Bordello Bar on Thursday, September 17th.
Featuring:
Claire Bergen (violin)
Jessica Ruiz (clarinet)
Isaac Schankler (accordion)
John Graves (bass)
Collecting songs from far and wide, The Shpil's repertoire ranges from authentic klezmer standards to downright obscure folk melodies to daring originals. Leaping shtetls and genres in a single bound, they're equally at home in bars and Bar Mitzvahs.
In Yiddish, "shpil" means to play an engrossing game, tell a captivating story, sing a beautiful song, give a rousing speech, make an irresistible sales pitch. In English, The Shpil is a cosmopolitan klezmer quartet that does all of those things and more.
For this performance The Shpil will be joined by percussionist T.J. Troy, adding some extra oomph to an already-propulsive band.
As always and ever, your gracious hosts DJ Cat Hair and DJ Jason Savvy will also be on hand spinning musical madness for the dance floor. Come give them a hug and welcome them back to The City of Angels from their intrepid and insane NYC tour with KILLSONIC! - only $5 cash - FULL BAR - FULL BOMBA!
